The peerage orders in the Society for Creative Anachronism are modeled on medieval knightly orders such as the Order of the Garter and the Order of the Golden Fleece. When I was invited to join the Order of the Laurel, I decided to take fifteenth-century knightly orders as my inspiration. My primary model was the Burgundian Order of the Golden Fleece; I also used information from the French Order of the Star and the English Order of the Garter.
